Hidden Heaven Revealed
The Battle for the Soul and God’s Gifts Helping God’s People See What the World Cannot
“For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; to another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another different kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills,” 1 Corinthians 12:8-12…
“ Now eagerly desire the greater gifts. And yet I will show you the most excellent way,” 1 Corinthians 12:31.
What if God has given His people spiritual weapons to see what the natural eye cannot see? What if moments of divine insight are not coincidences, but reminders that the Holy Spirit is actively working? What if the ability to recognize truth from deception is one of God’s greatest protections for His children?
The truth is that God has always been revealing, guiding, and equipping us through the power of the Holy Spirit. The gifts of knowledge and discerning of spirits are evidence that God is still moving, still speaking, and still preparing His children to walk in wisdom, truth and spiritual confidence. In a world filled with confusion and uncertainty, God has not left us powerless. He has given us divine gifts to recognize what is hidden, understand what is unseen, and follow His perfect direction with faith and courage in a world fighting for the soul.
The Great Spiritual Battle
Charles Spurgeon’s words, “Consider how precious a soul must be when both God and the devil are after it,” reveal the great spiritual battle that exists within every human heart. The quote suggests that every person carries a value so great that there are opposing forces seeking influence over their choices, character, and destiny. In today’s society, this struggle between good and evil can be seen in the constant conflict between compassion and selfishness, truth and deception, faith and doubt, or integrity and temptation. Modern culture often presents distractions and pressures that can pull people toward anger, greed, division, and hopelessness, while acts of kindness, forgiveness, justice, and love continue to reflect the presence of goodness in the world. Spurgeon’s thought reminds us that the human soul is not insignificant; it is a place where choices are made that shape not only individual lives but also communities and the future of society. The battle between good and evil is ongoing, but it also highlights the importance of choosing what is right, protecting our values, and recognizing the worth and purpose within every person.
Two Powerful Ways God Reveals Truth
The Bible reveals that the Holy Spirit gives special gifts to believers so they can walk in wisdom, serve others, and bring glory to God. Among these gifts are the gift of knowledge and the gift of discerning of spirits, two powerful ways God reveals truth and helps His people follow His will with confidence and humility.
The gift of knowledge is a supernatural understanding that comes from God. It is not simply learning facts or gaining information through experience. It is a spiritual insight that allows a person to know something that could only be revealed through the Holy Spirit. Throughout Scripture, God gave us knowledge beyond human ability so they could help others, encourage His people, and reveal His truth. This gift reminds believers that God knows every situation, every heart, and every hidden detail. Nothing is beyond His understanding.
The gift of discerning of spirits is another powerful gift that helps believers recognize what is truly from God and what is not. In a world where appearances can be misleading, this gift provides spiritual awareness to identify truth, deception, motives, and influences. It is not about judging people or assuming the worst about others. Instead, it is about seeking God’s wisdom, protecting His people, and staying aligned with His Word. True spiritual discernment always reflects the character of God through love, patience, and humility.
The Human Heart and Mind
The human heart and mind have always searched for answers, meaning, and a sense of connection, especially during times of uncertainty, pain, or confusion. However, this desire for understanding can sometimes lead people toward methods that are not supported by Christian principles found in the Bible, such as seeking guidance from mediums, soothsayers, or other spiritual practices that promise quick answers apart from God. These paths often appeal because they offer immediate reassurance or a sense of control, but they can replace the deeper work of faith, prayer, obedience, and developing a genuine relationship with God. Many people today are searching for a quick fix to fill a spiritual emptiness or satisfy a longing to be connected to something greater than themselves. Yet Scripture teaches that true wisdom and direction come through knowing God, seeking His truth, and allowing spiritual growth to take place through discipline, trust, and commitment. The desire for connection is deeply human, but the path we choose to fulfill that desire reveals whether we are seeking temporary comfort or a lasting relationship rooted in God’s guidance.
These gifts from God are not given for personal attention, pride, or recognition. They are given so we can serve, strengthen, and encourage others. God’s gifts are invitations to participate in His work and demonstrate His love. When the gift of knowledge reveals something, and when discernment brings clarity, the purpose is always to point people back to Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit does not bring confusion. He brings truth, wisdom, and peace.
A Warning and A Witness
Jesus warned His disciples, “See to it that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars... But the end is still to come,” Matthew 24:4-6. He spoke of a time when evil would grow unrestrained, hearts would grow cold, and lawlessness would abound, Matthew 24:12. This is the age we are living in a time where good is called evil, and evil is called good, Isaiah 5:20.
We are witnessing a society increasingly indifferent to sin. The glorification of darkness in media, the redefinition of morality, and the overt rejection of God’s truth are stark reminders that the last days are upon us. The enemy prowls like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour, 1 Peter 5:8).
More Prepared to Recognize His Voice
The gifts of knowledge and discerning of spirits remind us that God is still active and present in our lives. He continues to guide, protect, and equip us as we seek Him. Every Child of God has a purpose in God’s kingdom, and every gift from the Holy Spirit is valuable. When we walk with humility and surrender, God can use us to bring light into a world searching for hope.
The greatest gift is knowing the God who gives all gifts. As we seek Him through prayer, Scripture, and obedience, we become more prepared to recognize His voice and follow His direction. May we honor the Holy Spirit, cherish His gifts, and use them with love so that God receives all the glory.
Rest in Victory
As believers, we must remember that while evil’s is all around, God’s grace abounds even more. The world’s chaos, corruption, and confusion should drive us to our knees. Let us resolve to seek God with all our hearts, minds, and strength.
Our souls are of infinite worth. Spurgeon’s reflection reminds us that the spiritual battle for our lives is fierce because we are cherished by God yet targeted by the enemy. As we rest in Victory, we must not lose sight of what matters most. Let us:
Guard Our Hearts: Be vigilant against the subtle and overt influences of evil. Immerse ourselves in Scripture and prayer, allowing God’s truth to light our path, Psalm 119:105.
Be Watchful and Sober-Minded: Recognize the signs of the times and remain steadfast in our faith, 1 Thessalonians 5:6.
Prioritize Repentance: Reflect on our lives and surrender any sin, allowing God to purify us, 1 John 1:9.
Share the Gospel: The light of Christ shines brightest in the darkest times. Be bold in sharing the hope we have in Him, Matthew 5:16.
Let us not be lulled into complacency by the world’s distractions. It is easy to be distracted because our attention is constantly pulled in countless directions by responsibilities, emotions, technology and the pressures of everyday life. In a world that moves faster than ever, we can easily become so focused on temporary concerns that we miss the quiet ways God is speaking, guiding, and revealing His truth through the Holy Spirit. Instead, let us remember that our souls are precious and eternal. With urgency and hope, may we draw closer to Christ, whose return is near, and live with an eternal perspective.
After all, 1 Corinthians 12:31 remind us that spiritual gifts are valuable, but the greatest pursuit is not the gift itself, it is the heart behind the gift. God calls His people to eagerly desire the gifts He gives while remembering that every gift must be guided by love, humility, and a desire to serve others. The most powerful expression of the Holy Spirit’s work is not simply what we can do through His power, but how faithfully we reflect God’s love through everything we do. is not about chasing secret experiences or supernatural moments for personal recognition. It is about discovering the greater gifts God gives His people and walking in the most excellent way, the way of love that reflects His heart.
Grace and Blessings,
